Imagine the freedom of never having to shave, wax or pluck again and never again have unsightly ingrown hairs or razor rash.
Millions of us live with unwanted hair, dreaming of a life with permanently smooth, hair-free skin. Our Intense Pulsed Light treatments could make this dream a reality. IPL dramatically reduces unwanted and excess hair with a non-invasive course of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment. Suitable for treating hairs on all areas of face and body, IPL hair reduction offers a safe, effective, long-term solution for both men and women.
How does IPL work for Hair Reduction?
By using gentle pulses of filtered light momentarily onto the treatment area to create heat, IPL can permanently disable hair follicles, preventing future growth. The melanin in the hair (which gives it its colour) absorbs the light, which is then converted into heat. This heat is transferred to the growth cells surrounding the root of the hair, disabling them, without causing damage to the surrounding area.
What does treatment feel like?
Treatment sensation varies from client to client. There is no anaesthetic required and only on the more sensitive areas will you feel a slight tingle. Most clients say it feels like the flicking of an elastic band on their skin, however any discomfort is momentary and there is no lasting sensation.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Most people can benefit our IPL treatments in Eastbourne, although the best results are often seen in clients with a combination of fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is easier to treat because the light is absorbed better by it’s high concentration of melanin, while fair hair is harder to treat and will require more sessions. Blonde, red, grey or white hairs are not suitable for treatment because they do not contain sufficient melanin to absorb the light. In simple terms the greater the contrast between your hair colour and your skin colour the better the results.
If the area to be treated has many dark hairs but also has grey or white hairs apparent in amongst it, then the IPL can act on the dark hairs and Electrolysis can then be used to permanently remove the lighter coloured hairs.
I suffer with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Can IPL help me?
Yes. One of the side effects of polycystic ovarian syndrome can be enhanced hair growth, for which IPL is a suitable treatment.
What should I expect after the treatment?
The skin may appear slightly red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy, although this usually calms down within just a few hours. These are positive indications that the IPL treatment was effective and no cause for concern. In most cases very little difference can been seen and you can continue your normal daily activities.
How many treatments will I need?
The success of IPl treatment depends on treating the hair during the correct hair growth stage. There are three phases of hair growth, and it is during the active growing phase (the Anagen phase) that there is enough melanin in the hair bulb to permanently destroy the hair follicle. At this stage the hair has an abundance of pigment and blood supply at the base.
On average, only 30% of hairs are in this stage at any one time, and thus able to be targeted by IPL. This is why multiple treatments are required, spread out over a period of time to make sure that hair which is not treated in one session is affected in the next. The way hair grows is slightly different for everyone, so we tailor our treatment to suit you.
Approximately 30% reduction will be noticed after the initial treatment and as much as 95% reduction can be realized after approximately six treatments. The gap between sessions is usually four weeks for facial areas and six weeks for body areas. The number of hair removal sessions depends on various factors, including where the hair is, how thick it is and also your particular skin type and hair colour. For the best results we recommend that you complete the full series of treatment sessions.
Is the IPL Hair Removal Permanent?
IPL offers the most advanced and permanent reduction of hair growth of all the treatments currently on the market.
Most people will get effective hair reduction with each treatment, with very little regrowth after the course of treatments is done. Some will get complete permanent hair reduction with no regrowth, while others will require a yearly maintenance treatment. Any regrowth of hair will be weak, thin, and lighter in colour, due to the damaged hair follicles.
