Unwanted hair can be distressing to many people. Unwanted growth is a common problem affecting as many as 80% of ladies and gentlemen in varying degrees.
The unwanted hair may have arisen as a result of puberty, pregnancy, menopause or topical irritation of the skin. It maybe also be due to an underlying hormone imbalance, brought about by an illness or the use of some medications. Most areas can be permanently removed with Electrolysis, including hair on the upper lip, chin, cheeks, neck, nipples and abdomen. Hairs growing out of moles can also be treated using this method.
At Jasmines, you can undergo electrolysis treatments in full confidence, knowing you are in the hands of certified technicians who use sterilised equipment and disposable high quality probes.
The Consultation
The initial consultation will involve the electrolygist assessing your skin condition, the hair growth of concern and will also discuss your medical history. She will then tell you whether this is the right treatment for you and whether electrolysis can achieve the results you are looking for. If it is, then an individual treatment plan will be drawn up for you

The Treatment
A very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle alongside the hair. Once the probe is in the hair follicle, a mild current (Short Wave Diathermy) is applied for 1-2 seconds creating heat to the area. The heat dries up all the moisture, destroys living cells and cuts off the blood supply to the root of the dermal papillar. This allows the hair to be taken out and a shorter regrowth should take place.
For electrolysis to have a long term effect on hair growth, a series of treatment must be carried out.
It works by weakening the hair every time so eventually it stops growing. Every person is different in the time it actually takes for the hair to stop growing. It is dependent on many factors but especially whether or not the hair has been tampered with prior to the treatment either by plucking, waxing, shaving etc.
Expectation Of Electrolysis
Treatment of the area is initially recommended every 7-14 days. This will vary depending on the area, coarseness of the hair and the skin type. Fine hairs may or may not regrow after just one treatment. Strong hairs require repeated treatments but regrow more slowly and become lighter and finer in texture with each treatment so that progress is constantly being seen.
Although Electrolysis is classed as a permanent removal of hair, the result is achieved over a period of time. The hair growth cycle involves 3 stages. One of the stages is the active/growing stage called the Anagen Stage and is the ideal stage for the hair to be destroyed. Whilst the hair is in the rested or breaking down stage the treatment is not so successful. The electrolygist cannot change the hair growth cycle; therefore, repeated treatments are needed as the hair moves through the growing cycle. This ensures the hairs are all being treated over the period of time. It is important to remember that a high percentage of hairs are in the Anagen/growing stage at any one time.
Does It Hurt?
While the current is being applied a brief stinging sensation is felt. The level of sensation depends on the area being treated, the nerve responses of each individual, the level of current required etc. The current must be strong enough to be effective, while remaining tolerable.
Recovery Time
Immediately following treatment, there may be slight redness and/or swelling which usually disappears within a few hours. No recovery time is necessary, normal work and daily activities can be resumed after a treatment.
Post Treatment Advice
It is very important to follow the advice of your therapist carefully after electrolysis for hair removal to reduce the risk of complications.
- Apply Sterex Aloe Vera to the area for 2-3 days after treatment
- Do not expose yourself to the sun without applying a high factor sun block to the treated area as this may cause the area to become pigmented.
For courses of electrolysis, you pay for five treatments and receive the sixth session free of charge in our Eastbourne salon. These are pre-paid in advance of the treatment and are non refundable and non transferable.
